What you can do for trees
- Take care of the tree, following some simple rules, such as protecting the bark (no initials) and roots (no driving over or dumping toxic materials on). Crann has published an excellent book, ‘The ABC of trees, hedgerows and development’ that describes the healthy tree environment in more detail.
- Look at your special tree as an important member of your family and community. Treat it right and it will give many generations of pleasure, as well as serving the environment that nurtures all of us.
- If you think the tree is special in height, girth or for other reasons it can and should be measured and assessed by a tree specialist who can be contacted through the Tree Council of Ireland. Once this is done, if the tree is unique in some way, it can be entered in the Tree Register of Ireland as something special, to be cherished by all of us.
